On this page are the suggestions which don't really fit into any other area of the site. Naming of areas/buildingsThe ability to name buildings and areas, introduced in SC2000, was not included in SC3000. In SC2000, buildings could be named by editing a textbox in the window produced by querying some buildings; and areas could be named by placing signs. Personally, I used signs as a form of memorial to major disasters (eg. 'Sight of great fire, 2024'), but a lot of people used signs to name different regions of the city. This feature was not included in SC3000. An extension of this would be to have the ability to name bridges and major roads, and then the game can include these names in newspaper articles. For example, if you have a major earthquake that destroys a large stretch of your named highway near a named area of your city, the newspaper article might report that 'a large stretch of the Interstate 46 near the Riverside section of the city was destroyed in the quake'. Weather/seasons/day/nightBy far the most common suggestion that I receive is something relating to the inclusion of weather/seasons/day/night in Sim City. The obvious problem with both of these things is the timescale. In the current Sim City games, days pass in a few seconds. As it rarely rains for more than an hour, representing rain would only last for a fraction of a second. Also, the change from day to night would be so rapid that playing Sim City would be like having a strobe light in your room. The only way around the problem would to change the timescale, by having days taking much longer to pass (like, 10 minutes). Of course this means that other things would take absolutely ages - buildings taking several hours ("real time") to be built, etc. My suggestion is this: There are two different timescales that can be used in the game - fast time and "real" time. Fast time is just like the way the existing Sim City games have worked - years pass in minutes etc. In "real" time, a minute in the game takes a about a minute in real life, etc. In real time you could see your Sims moving around the city, you can see the weather change, the seasons have an affect on the visual appearance of your city, etc. I'm not completely convinced that this is work, but it might do. Some people have suggested a sort of 'nightmode', whereby you can view your city at night at the click of a button. I'm not too keen on this idea as I imagine this would be quite a lot of extra programming effort for something that players would not use very much. Other suggestions
